For this webinar ORN has teamed up with experts from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and Defra mining data in new and innovative ways to bring insights we have never had before! Insights will include…
Using ‘Big Data’ to understand where people go!
The first presentation unveils a groundbreaking ‘Big Data’ research project that utilises a range of free and open source datasets including Strava Metro data and potentially in the future, mobile phone data to better understand and map where people go for their outdoor recreation visits. The speakers will showcase how innovative data analysis techniques can provide nuanced insights into user behaviour, popular recreational locations, and emerging trends.
Speakers: Joshi Chaitanya (Senior Data Scientist, ONS) and Tim Ashelford (Data Lead, Defra)
Quantifying the health benefits of outdoor recreation for all the UK
The second presentation is centred on leveraging data to shed light on the benefits derived from outdoor recreational activities across the UK. By walking through the methodology and data sources, participants will learn what the monetary value of health benefits associated with outdoor recreation within the UK is – and how it is calculated.
Speaker: Harry Davies (Natural Capital Team, ONS)
Webinar participants will gain valuable insights to inform decision-making processes for creating healthier and more sustainable communities. The event showcases the importance of collaboration between researchers, policymakers, landowners and communities to harness the full potential of outdoor recreation for the well-being of populations.
Non-members attending the webinar will have the webinar ticket price reimbursed if they sign-up for the ORN 2-day conference in the Wicklow Mountains on 11-12th April on the topic of ‘Navigating Outdoor Recreation with Insights’. Event and booking information below:
